Went to bed early to listen in to Venice for Benjamin Britten's new opera The Turn of the Screw. Went to sleep over it. Disappointing.

Great news. Bet rang up to say that Awly and James MacLachlan were formally engaged and the announcement would be in The Times and Telegraph in a day or two. Bet sounded very happy.
