Week of 24 September 1956

Monday, 24 September
47 Hamilton Terrace
A gorgeous summer day. Alice slept late and then went down to Clifton Rd to buy her tuck etc. Her foot is painful and she can only wear a felt slipper. I saw her off by her school train at Victoria at 3.50. She only just caught it as Radio Taxi let us down.
Wednesday, 26 September
Reg rang me up this evening to say that the farm is at last sold at the eleventh hour and the auction called off. A great relief to him though he was feeling a bit low. The sale of live and dead stock is to be next Friday.
Thursday, 27 September
A lovely morning. I walked up to the St John's Wood free library to try for Under Milk Wood but no luck.
Friday, 28 September
Reg rang up in the evening to say they had had a reasonably good sale of the live and dead stock today - better than he had anticipated.
