Week of 1 April 1959

Hamilton Terrace – Hôtel de la Paix, Nice
Left home soon after 10 Am for BEA Terminal 2, stopping at Clifton Road for Mab to buy dark glasses. She is still seedy with heavy cold. Gorgeous day and perfect flight. She was not a bit frightened.

Reached Nice at 4 o'clock. Sunless and enervating. Contour agent drove us to the Hôtel de la Paix in the centre of the town.
Two adjoining rooms, comfortable but no charm, and Mab is feeling very off-colour. Had tea in a restaurant and then exhausted ourselves in a fruitless and unnecessary search for the Contour office. Mediocre dinner and then to bed.
