Week of 27 January 1947

Monday, 27 January

Wilma slept here

47 Hamilton Terrace

Reg hired a car to take him to Waterloo station en route for Devon and left at 9.45. I lunched with Mabel and got back here for tea after changing a book at Harrods and getting our beads from Mrs Jones.

Tuesday, 28 January

Wilma slept here

An arctic day but Anne brought Sarah over to an early tea.

Wednesday, 29 January

Wilma slept here

Mabel out to tea. A horrible blizzard.

Thursday, 30 January

Wilma slept here

I lunched at Lil's flat and met Mabel there. Taxied home with Lil's sewing machine which she is lending Wilma.

Bet rang up in the evening to say that she was sending Hester up here tomorrow as she thought she would be better for the change.

Friday, 31 January

Hester slept here

Hester arrived about 12 o'clock and after lunch she and I went to the Classic Cinema, Baker St to see Lost Horizon which I think she enjoyed. Taxied back to tea and crumpets.

Wilma's last day with Lovell, White and King. She went straight down from the office to spend the night with the Bawtrees at Chobham.

Saturday, 1 February

Hester slept very late, had breakfast in my room, and afterwards we did local shopping. Wilma arrived back with the Lanchester before lunch and afterwards found a garage in Hall Rd to leave it whilst she and Hester went down to CH for the weekend. I taxied down with them to Victoria where they caught the 4.18 train. I went on and had tea with Mabel. In the evening Reg rang up . He hopes to get here on Tuesday but they are still snowbound in Devonshire.

Sunday, 2 February

I went to the 11 o'clock service at St John's Wood Chapel and stayed for the Sung Eucharist. Both services very curtailed owing to lack of heating. Small electric fires put down the aisle but not very effective. I came back here frozen but none the worse.

Went out to tea with Anne and brought her some provisions. Sarah had complained of tummy pain but I thought she seemed very well and spry.
