Week of 2 June 1952

Tuesday, 3 June

47 Hamilton Terrace

Pippa rang up about 9 am to tell me that James has got a scholarship for Marlborough. Alice came to lunch looking seedy with a sore throat and afterwards I saw her off at Paddington at 2.15.

Friday, 6 June

Rang up Anne in the evening. All well there. Bet rang up later and said she was better. Hester very sad as her dog Jo had had to be pt down.

Saturday, 7 June

47 Hamilton Terrace - Saxmundham Hotel, Swanage

Left the house in car for Waterloo to catch the 10.30 train. Clara was there to see us off. Roads closed because of Royal Proclamation and we had a mad rush up to platform. Touch and go if Mabel could make it. Comfortable journey.

Disappointed at first in our quarters but they grow on one. Walked down to the Grosvenor Hotel after tea where we stayed in our palmy days.

Sunday, 8 June

Saxmundham Hotel, Swanage

A horrible day for our first: cold and wet, but we enjoyed ourselves. Went ot church close by - an ugly erection but a very nice service and sermon. Freda and her sister Mrs French drove over from Studland in afternoon and took us back to tea. A delightful house and garden, husband and eats! Freda looking very aged and changed.
