Week of 28 June 1954

Wednesday, 30 June

47 Hamilton Terrace

Awly had supper here and Bet rang up to tell us that Notley Mead was burnt down yesterday afternoon whilst Hester was driving Alice back to school. Thank God she had taken Louise with her.

It is arranged that I shall go down to Ringshall on Saturday for a few days.

Saturday, 3 July

47 Hamilton Terrace - Ringshall

Chaos at Liverpool St but Awly managed to get us window seats. We took a bus from Ipswich to Ringshall where a taxi met us and got us home in time for tea. No sun but everything delightful except that I had a fall on the stairs going down to supper. Exceedingly painful but no harm done.

Sunday, 4 July

Slept 9 hours solid and woke in very little pain but still feel the results of the shaking and spent the whole day in bed as the most sensible thing to do, and Bet and Awly looked after me splendidly. I am in Bet's room looking out on fields of Fresian cows. Nothing could be nicer and I dozed most of the afternoon. Awly returns to London this evening.
