47 Hamilton Terrace
Letters from Pippa (posted Karachi), Bet, Anne and Nicky. Also a pc from Clara to say she would not be coming in today as she was going to the doctor. After doing the necessary chores I went off to Regent's Park with a sandwich lunch, book and writing things. It was quite lovely and I did not get home till 6.30. I spent part of the time by the lake, and part in the rose garden.

James came and fetched me in the evening to dine with him and Awly at 36 Stanhope Gardens. Very pleasant and Awly gave me a capital dinner, including a roast chicken. Afterwards they both drove me home.

Thursday, 22 September
Was down early in Clifton Road to get our 12 o'clock lunch. Bet, Alice, Barnaby and Johnny arrived about 10.30, all well though the little boys rather low spirited. Awly came to lunch and afterwards went with Bet to see Barnaby off at Paddington. Then back here for a couple of hours before they all bussed to Victoria to see Alice off. Then Bet handed Johnny over to Mrs Howson who is keeping him over the weekend and seeing him off at London Airport next Monday for Tripoli. Then Bet caught the 5.30 train back to Stowmarket.

Nicky slept here
I went to morning service but Nicky stayed at home to write to Pakistan. In the afternoon she went to the British Museum to see the Elgin Marbles, and then on to All Souls, Langham Place, getting back in time for a late supper.
