Week of 31 October 1955

Monday, 31 October

47 Hamilton Terrace

A lovely day. I met Reg and Aline at Waterloo at 11.15 and we went down to London Airport in a BEA coach - had a super lunch there overlooking the tarmac and came back to Waterloo by helicopter. A wonderful experience but not really very comfortable and poor Aline felt very badly though we were in the air less than 15 minutes. I came straight home and was glad to rest, but I wouldn't have missed it for anything.

Tuesday, 1 November

Princess Margaret has decided not to marry Group Commander Peter Townsend.

Saturday, 5 November

Sarah and her friend Mary O'Neil came to tea. Both of them very charming but I couldn't hear much of what they said.

Sunday, 6 November

Went to both services in the morning, but did not go out again and saw no-one. Wrote to Pippa and Bet and read The Dark Eye of Africa with great interest.
