Week of 22 April 1957

Monday, 22 April
47 Hamilton Terrace
Mabel slept here
We did not stir out of the house all day but got through a lot of writing. James looked in this evening on their return from Stutton and said it had been lovely down there and they had been sailing. An interesting letter from Lil about her plans and Jeremy's. She has got a 2 months let for the flat. Better than nothing.
Tuesday, 23 April
Sarah's birthday (14) and Jamie's birthday (1). I went to tea with the latter. Petal and her little boy were there. She is having her second baby next month.
Thursday, 25 April
Lunched with Mabel at 7 Albermarle St (the Book League) of which Mab is a member) and heard a lecture on the Writer and the Film by Eric Ambler. It is a lovely Georgian house, and I was very interested in all thelayout, but not greatly in the lecture.
Friday, 26 April
James Flecker slept here
Awly came in for elevenses. William put down weed killer. James Flecker arrived at lunch time (but not for lunch). He had been to his nose specialist and wanted a rest and tidy-up. Mabel spent the afternoon here, and had tea before going on to St Martin's. The MacLachlan's drove down to Bet for the weekend.
Saturday, 27 April
James shopped unsuccessfully in the morning but lunched here before starting off to run at the White City for Marlborough. Mabel lunched here and stayed for tea. Obviously going through a bad time. Interesting letters from Riversdale, Ringshall and Cornwall.
